When 2018 started, it was expected that Salman Khan’s Race 3 and Aamir Khan’s Thugs Of Hindostan will rule the box office and become the one of the highest grossers of all time. However, audience didn’t like either of them. Race 3 tanked at the box office, with 169 crore whereas Thugs Of Hindostan has gone down in its opening weekend itself, merely minting 119 crore in 4 days.
In fact, Thugs Of Hindostan, with Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead, with Diwali solo release and 5000 screens in India, was talked of to even cross the 400 crore mark in its lifetime but that is not happening now, as audience as well as critics have given their verdict for the film and it is not good. So, now the big question is, will Shah Rukh Khan‘s Zero and Akshay Kumar’s 2.0 step-up to match the huge expectations of the audience and the hype the films have created?
One things is for sure, since 2017, the Indian crowd’s taste has matured and it is only giving good to great responses to films with seriously good and unique stories. So, if a film has nothing to offer, it’s not going to do well just based on the stardom.
Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 is the costliest film of Indian cinema and it will need to impress the audience with its Sci-Fi story and excellent VFX. The buzz for it is humongous so after, Thugs Of Hindostan’s debacle, all eyes are now on this potential blockbuster to score record breaking collections.
If worked perfectly, 2.0 can even challenge Baahubali 2’s collections. With superstar Rajinikanth, the crowd from South India will be humongous and Akshay Kumar will ensure the pan India reach for this mega movie. 2.0 has the potential to rewrite history and create milestones.
December is always considered great for Bollywood films as Christmas and New Year period give one of the best theatrical release opportunities to attract massive footfalls. Shah Rukh Khan’s much talked about Zero is releasing on that period, on 21st December. It is the most ambitious project of SRK and its trailer has created a big buzz on social media.
Bollywood movie buffs are now expecting SRK to give them that entertainment which Thugs Of Hindostan or Race 3 couldn’t give. He will have to carry those expectations on his shoulder. If worked well, Zero can be Shah Rukh Khan’s highest grossing film of all time. Being an out and out entertainment film, it has a huge chance to do that and close the 2018 on a deeply satisfying note.
Let’s see if 2.0 and Zero deliver or not and win the audience with their stories.
