January 2017 witnessed the biggest clash of the year when Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees and Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil released on the same day. While that buzz is now over, Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2 is currently ruling the box office.
This week is a curious situation in Bollywood wherein three new films are releasing: The Ghazi Attack, Running Shaadi and Irada. While neither of them are big enough to challenge Jolly LLB 2, they still have a good chance to mint as much money as they can and if the content is good, the appreciation is always a motivation for the artists.
The Ghazi Attack has made some buzz though its concept and trailer. It is the first Indian war-at-sea film with the battle between India and Pakistan under the ocean and all that submarine stuff which is an exciting thing to watch. Produced by Karan Johar, this movie has got the most screens out the the three movies so it will try to bring in decent collection and if the word of mouth and reviews are good, the weekend will be fruitful for the makers.
Taapsee Pannu and Amit Sadh’s romantic film ‘Running Shaadi’ is finally releasing after much delay. The trailer and songs have managed to make some stir in the audience but it will be hard for the movie to find a significant crowd. In recent times, Taapsee has become a known face in Bollywood due to her brilliant performance in ‘Pink‘ and her cameo in Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’ so this reputation will be helpful for her.
Irada has a stellar cast which includes Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi, Sagarika Ghatge and Divya Dutta. The story of the film is also quite interesting. If the critical appreciation for the movie is strong, it can have a favorable effect at box office.
All being said, Jolly LLB 2 will still have a majority number of screen share even in second week and these three films will have to compete with each other. Let’s see whose content fares better with the audience.
