Vishal Bhardwaj’s latest film ‘Rangoon‘ has got a slow start on its opening day. The film collected 6.07 crore on 1st Friday. The morning shows were already very poor for the film and due to the mixed reviews and weak word of mouth, it has not manged to take a strong start.
Rangoon is a kind of a film that is not made for the mass population so its response from small cities and single screens will not be impressive. It needs to show some jump on Saturday and Sunday to get a good start in its opening weekend.
Shahid Kapoor’s last film ‘Udta Punjab’ had got amazing collections on its opening day (around 10 crore) so Rangoon collecting 6 crore in a bit let down. Of course, Bhardwaj is not known to make films for box office domination but the film still needs to show a decent growth to recover its costs.
If it keeps showing dull response, the audience will once again turn to Jolly LLB 2 which is in 3rd week but can gain some traction. There are also many Hollywood movies that have released this week as this is the Oscar season in USA.
Rangoon is a story of a love triangle in times of war. It also stars Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan. The film is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. This is the 3rd time Shahid and Bhardwaj have come together after Kaminey and Haider.
