Akshay Kumar’s Padman is releasing on 9th February and it is his first movie of 2018 among the many lined up. Based on a true story of social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, Padman tells the story of how a man started making affordable sanitary napkins for rural women.
Padman has a good buzz going on. Despite postponing the movie for Padmaavat on 25th January, the interest level for Padman is still high, thanks to its promotions across the country and the social support from Bollywood stars for it.
Everything is working very well for this R. Balki directorial. It is a solo release as Aiyaary has been shifted to 16th February. Padman will be getting 2500-2800 screens. Padmaavat’s buzz will be reducing by 9th February but it will be still maintaining a significant chunk of screen.
Akshay Kumar is one of the most successful actors of Bollywood in recent times. His films are constantly doing 100+ crore business, Airlift, Housefull 3, Rustom, Jolly LLB 2, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and now, Padman is also looking to do the same.
With a talented cast of Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte, Akshay Kumar’s Padman will be opening to around 13-15 crore on Friday. The opening day number would have been much higher (20 crore) had it released on Republic Day but that ship has sailed. Akshay Kumar’s social films have done amazing at box office lately so Padman is also expected to do the same.
The film will have to sustain and grow very strongly in its 1st week because Padmaavat is also there to attract the crowd and after 1st week, Aiyaary will also be grabbing the 30-40% screen count. Reviews and word of mouth for Padman will be vital.
Akshay Kumar has a huge fan base in India and abroad so Padman can take its opening weekend total in the range of 45-50 crore. If it can near the 90 crore mark in its 1st week, it will be a huge news for the makers. Afterwards, it can fly beyond the 100 crore mark in 2nd week.
