The day has come when Padmaavat is finally in theaters. However, the scenario is not as pleasant for the makers and audience as they would have hoped for. The movie is still facing protests in many states which has created a panic in some regions. This will affect the collections and footfalls of this grand film.
Yesterday, Gurugram witnessed violent protests and Rajasthan and Gujarat too, faced many threats so the occupancy in paid previews in these states was not there. However, Maharashtra, especially Mumbai, then Kolkata, Delhi and South India are responding well to Padmaavat on its 1st day.
Bangalore was impressive of all. Padmaavat has taken 35-40% fill rate in its morning shows. The occupancy is good considering the situation. It would have been easily 60-70% had there not been so much violent agitation against it. Police security has been tightened across the nation to encourage the audience to watch the movie but it will take a while to calm things down.
Today is Thursday, a working day so the 40% occupancy in morning is actually good. Tomorrow is 26th January, the Republic Day holiday so from today evening, the crowd will be there for the movie and occupancy may hit the 70-80% mark or even more.
The buzz for Padmaavat is all time high. No film in recent history has been talked about so much as this one and it will help it attract massive footfalls. A 20+ crore opening day is expected by trade and if audience comes with full numbers, it can even go past the 25 crore mark. However, it will need to have all shows working in all states to go 25+ crore.
Reviews for Padmaavat are outstanding and being in 3D as well means family and kids will also be highly interested for this one. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, it stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
