Padmaavat, one of the most talked about films in last 5-6 months, has taken a very good start at box office, considering the situation it is in currently. Despite having no shows in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and major threat in Gurugram, the movie has gone past the 15 crore mark on Thursday. It also has a limited release in UP and Bihar.

Padmaavat had brought in 5 crore from its paid previews on Wednesday which started from evening 6 pm. On Thursday, it got a full fledged released. Although it had been assigned more than 4000 screens in India, due to the protests in many states, the number is around 3500 screens.

Padmaavat has collected in the range of 19 crore on its 1st Thursday. This is a real impressive number and if it would have got an ideal release situation, Padmaavat could have collected close to 30 crore. It has lost 30% of market due to agitation. However, 19 crore will be one of the top opening day numbers of 2018.

Mumbai and South India have been the major contributor for the movie. The average occupancy in Mumbai and Bangalore was around 70% for the entire day. Evening shows were much higher. West Bengal and Delhi were decent as there was a tight police security.

Today is 26th January, India’s Republic Day holiday so this is the best day for Padmaavat to earn massive income. Trade is expecting it to collect more than 25 crore. Also, this is an extended weekend which will give an enormous boost to this Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial. It should be easily nearing the 100 crore mark in its opening weekend.

The reviews and word of mouth for Padmaavat is exceptional. Audience is highly interested to see this periodic epic. Let’s see if situation in mentioned states improves or not and if it does, Padmaavat will be unstoppable.
