2017 will be remembered for how Indian audience has changed its taste and has given a highly positive response to content driven movies and how they chose script over the stardom. Rajkummar Rao’s Newton is the shining example of that phenomenon as it is getting a huge love from the crowd.
Newton started with 96 lakhs on its 1st day, which was expected as it didn’t have much screens (430 screens) compared to Bhoomi and Haseena Parkar. But, its 2nd day witnessed a massive growth and its occupancy was as high as 70-80%, which is incredible.
Newton jumped 162.50% on 2nd day and minted 2.52 crore. The news of Newton being selected as India’s official entry to Oscars was strongly accepted by the crowd and people went to see the specialty of Newton. It grew on Sunday as well and earned 3.42 crore. The total of Newton is 6.90 crore in 3 days. This Rajkummar Rao lead film will show a magical run in weekdays and will easily near the 15 crore mark by the end of 1st week.
Sanjay Dutt’s Bhoomi has not really made its mark at box office as its opening weekend doesn’t have a strong collection, especially with its high screen count. Bhoomi has collected a total of 7.48 crore in 3 days and will have a tough time to maintain its hold in weekdays.
The same goes with Shraddha Kapoor’s Haseena Parkar as it didn’t have any appeal in audience. It has also earned on the same lines of Bhoomi, which is around 7 crore. This is a surprising aspect as Newton, which has got the lesser screens than Bhoomi and Haseena Parkar, is earning positively than them.
