Jab Harry Met Sejal’s Loss is Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’s Gain – Box Office Insights

A couple of months ago, the big clash between Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal and Akshay Kumar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was averted as SRK decided to release JHMS on 4th August. But now during its 3 days run at box office, this Shah Rukh Khan film is not performing well.

Right from its first day, this Imtiaz Ali directed movie witnessed a below expectation response. In 5 days, it has collected 55.90 crore which is not what you expect from an SRK movie. The audience is reluctant to turn up for its shows.

Poor reviews and negative word of mouth have sealed the fate of Jab Harry Met Sejal and even 100 crore is not looking possible for it. Being an urban film, JHMS has opened in around 3400 screens. Now, this situation will be benefiting Akshay Kumar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha big time. It’s like Jab Harry Met Sejal’s loss is Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’s gain.

Audience is already staying away from JHMS so they will be awaiting the release of TEPK now. If JHMS would have performed better, it would have retained a good screen share in 2nd week, maybe around 40% but now, that is not possible. Even with 3400 screens, it is not attracting any decent footfalls so its screens will be drastically reduced in 2nd week compared to TEPK.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is a mass population movie so it is going to open in multiplexes as well as single screens in big numbers. It will have a wide release throughout the country. And, now with the debacle of JHMS, everyone will be turning up for TEPK’s shows.

Post Baahubali 2, not a single big star film has performed well at box office so even exhibitors will be now having huge hopes from Toilet: Ek Prem Katha from next week as JHMS has disappointed. These all are very positive signs for Akshay Kumar and the makers as this is actually a boost for them. However, what’s true to JHMS is also true to TEPK. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha will also need positive reviews otherwise it will too, face a danger of rejection from audience.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is releasing in Independence Day weekend which is another massive advantage for it. It releases on 11th August, 2017.
