China is the 2nd largest market in the world but Indian films had not really capitalized on it until Aamir Khan started the trend. Since last 2-3 years, Indian movies, especially Bollywood films are doing incredible business in China, proving that our movies are being accepted in foreign countries.
With Dangal‘s phenomenal business of 1200+ crore there, Indian films have started targeting this enormous market. Bollywood is on the rise with content driven movies and unique stories. China has a massive crowd and it releases the movies in huge numbers.
Aamir Khan’s Dangal tops the list of Highest Grossing Indian Films in China. It is also the highest grossing non-Hollywood movie in China. All these things are stating that we should target global box office to expand the reach of our cinema. The 2nd top film is also the Aamir Khan starrer Secret Superstar.
Salman Khan also entered the Chinese market with his film Bajrangi Bhaijaan which has collected around 295 crore. This is a great achievement and we hope, more and more Bollywood films get released there. Irrfan Khan’s Hindi Medium also did a strong business there.
Rani Mukerji’s Hichki has collected 150+ crore so far. The film has been loved by the Chinese and is unaffected by the new big releases there. This is a good sign for Indian movies as good content is being appreciated, beyond the boundaries. Hichki is also the 5th highest grossing Indian movie in China now.
