Sanjay Leela Bhansali has some affection for the period drama but those also accompany constant protests and problems for his films. SLB’s next venture is quite in the news ever since he announced that he is making a film on Padmavati, a real story based on Rani Padmini of Chittorgarh.
The film is facing a protest from Patidar Navnirman Sena, lead by Hardik Patel. Hardik told a tabloid that every person is proud of Maharani Padmavati, who sacrificed her life for the self-esteem of Chittorgarh but Rajasthan based Rajput Sena met and told him that SLB has not done any research or study on Rani Padmavati. He also said that SLB should provide assurances that he will not manipulate the historical facts for the cinematic liberties and entertainment, otherwise PNS won’t allow the film to be released in India.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s last film was a magnum opus Bajirao Mastani which was highly successful but it had changed a lot of things for the sake of entertainment. Only time will tell whether these protests will cause any serious problems to the film or not.
Padmavati stars Deepika Padukone as the queen, Ranveer Singh as Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Rawal Ratan Singh, Padmavati’s husband.
