Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s romantic film ‘Half Girlfriend‘ is hitting the theaters on 19th May. Based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel by the same name, the movie has garnered a good buzz among the movie buffs.

Directed by Mohit Suri, there are big expectations from Half Girlfriend, especiallly after Suri’s highly successful ‘Aashiqui 2’.

Here is our Music Review on Half Girlfriend:

Baarish

Baarish is an adorable track which connects love with rain and that combination always works in Bollywood. Music director Tanishk Bagchi sets the mood and tone of the song with a soft background score and expresses the longing of a person for his love. Ash King’s crooning is wonderful to listen with Arafat Mehmood and Tanishk Bagchi’s wordings doing their magic.

Thodi Der

Shreya Ghoshal gives an enchanting touch to Thodi Der with her beautiful voice. The music by Farhan Saeed, singing by Shreya-Farhan and lyrics of Kumaar come together to give a song that is emotionally effective. The composing is smart and didn’t overdo the emotions; making it simple and relatable.

Tu Hi Hai

Rahul Mishra’s composing and singing for Tu Hi Hai is a good one to listen as it adds a different flavor to the album. The qawwali feel of the track is appreciable and shows the maturity of the music. The song improvizes very well with the pace and beats with the lyrics Laado Suwalko.

Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga

How can you not have an Arijit Singh song when the film is about romance and heartbreak? Without a doubt, ‘Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga’ is the best one from the album. Arijit yet again imparts that romantic and painful energy to the song and Mithoon does the wonder of music which is simply mind blowing. Shaasha Tirupati complements Arijit perfectly. The track describes the theme of the film with sheer intensity.

Pal Bhar (Chaahunga Reprise)

If you loved ‘Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga’, this extension of that song will be something you will enjoy with your heart. Arijit Singh and the music gives a potent feel of romance in Pal Bhar.

Lost Without You

Lost Without You is an avoidable number as its music doesn’t give a satisfactory feel. Composed by Ami Mishra, the song feels generic and the crooning by Ami Mishra and Anushka Shahaney don’t work well. We hope it does have some value in the film.

Stay A Little Longer

Stay A Little Longer is a good track which gives that passion lacking in ‘Lost Without You’. The amazement of music by Farhan Saeed and powerful voice of Anushka Shahaney is delightful. However, the Hindi version (Thodi Der) is much better but we appreciate the efforts by the music director.

Mere Dil Mein

Mere Dil Mein is a unique track for the album because it gives a fun and peppy track otherwise all the songs of Half Girlfriend are romantically painful. Composed by Rishi Rich, Mere Dil Mein is a modern track with lyrics that are relatable to young generation. A group of lyricists coming together for the words and rapping is a strong indication of the hardwork put in for the song. Veronica Mehta and Yash Narvekar are real good in duet, making it a decent party song.

Verdict:

Half Girlfriend’s music album is quite good. Its romantic and sad songs are powerful, describing the pain perfectly. You would definitely enjoy them passionately. However, one might feel the excess of sad songs in the album, distorting the balance of joy of romance and pain of it. It is not as good as Aashiqui 2, but Half Girlfriend album is worth listening to.
