What a time this is for Indian cinema as two of our biggest blockbusters are ruling the global box office and are now flying into the same record breaking earning zone. Dangal and Baahubali 2 are the only Indian films to cross the 1000 crore mark and now, there is something interesting going on with these two at worldwide box office.
Baahubali 2 has already crossed the mega milestone of 1500 crore, becoming the first Indian film to do so. On the other hand, Aamir Khan’s Dangal is creating a mayhem at China box office as it is earning in the range of 80+ crore/day in weekends and 30 crore/day in weekdays. Within 16 days, Dangal’s total from China alone is massive 650 crore.
Baahubali 2,, being in 4th week, is now earning at a slow pace and its buzz in India too, has dropped. As of today, its worldwide total is 1538 crore. Coming to Dangal, which is in its 3rd week in China, has crossed the 1400 crore mark and its total is 1407 crore.
Just a day before, Dangal’s global total was 1300 crore and then it minted 100 crore yesterday (3rd Saturday) in China. Today too, it will earn another 100+ crore as it’s a Sunday. So, it will cross the 1500 crore worldwide mark today itself, matching Baahubali 2’s global total.
Moreover, Dangal is also having a strong earning trend in weekdays, so by the end of 3rd week, it can go beyond 800 crore in China, making its worldwide total around 1550-1580 crore. Who knows, it might beat Baahubali 2’s total in coming days.
After 26th May, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is releasing in China which will reduce Dangal’s screens and earnings but if it can manage its footfalls in 4th week too, then there is no stopping for Dangal to become the Highest Grossing Indian Film globally.
In any case, both Baahubali 2 and Dangal have made Indian cinema proud and have shown the world our film-making potential and that’s the most important thing.
