After the gigantic storm of Tiger Zinda Hai which started from 22nd December 2017, this is the first Friday when screens will be shared considerably to new Bollywood movies. This Friday, Anurag Kashyap’s Mukkabaaz, Saif Ali Khan starrer Kaalakaandi and 1921 will be hitting the theaters and they will be trying to attract footfalls, which were earlier coming for TZH.
Kashyap’s Mukkabaaz is easily the bigger film and has more appeal out of these three. A love story of a boxer from Uttar Pradesh and his fight with the system to follow his boxing dream, Mukkabaaz has truly made a huge mark through its trailer and songs. It is looking a typical brilliant and dark movie of Kashyap so audience will be having a very good choice to visit theaters.
Also Eros being one of the collaborators for Mukkabaaz, the promotions for the film were heavy and it has brought this socio-political drama in limelight. The film had earlier screened at MAMI and its reviews are highly positive. There are many favorable aspects for Mukkabaaz and it will be enjoying its box office run.
This Vineet Singh lead film will be expected to open with around 1.5-2.5 crore collections. North India, especially UP will be its maximum contributor. Anurag Kashyap has created his own loyal fan base through a thoughtful storytelling so that will be beneficial for the movie. The transformation video of Vineet Singh has also made a positive impact on social media. Mukkabaaz can sustain well if audience accepts it.
Saif Ali Khan starrer Kaalakaandi won the crowd with its trailer but afterwards, its songs and promos have not managed to keep the interest flowing. Delays in its release have suppressed its appeal as well. Saif’s last few releases have not done well.
Kaalakaandi has an urban target audience so the earnings won’t be huge. It will need good reviews as well as good recommendation from audience otherwise it will be easily lost in the crowd of several releases this week. 1921, the horror flick from Vikram Bhatt can take a decent opening but again, it needs to make a mark with the crowd.
There is also Steven Spielberg’s much talked about film ‘The Post‘ releasing this Friday. The film is already creating big waves from its early screenings so it will be trying its hands at Indian box office. However, it won’t be much obstruction to Bollywood movies as it will be having a limited screen count in India.
It still remains to be seen how Tiger Zinda Hai behaves with these releases and whether audience prefers new movies over this Salman Khan starrer or not.
