2017 is almost over and has given us many memorable moments in terms of movies, box office records and many more. From hits to flops to clashes and milestones, here are the events of Bollywood that defined 2017.
The Dangal Domination
Released on 23rd December, 2016, Aamir Khan’s Dangal broke and set many box office records in January 2017. The film was the fastest one to enter 300 crore club in India, until Baahubali 2 broke its record. Also, Dangal collected 387 crore in India, becoming the Highest Grossing Film in India, again Baahubali 2 broke the record in May 2017.
Moreover, Dangal released in China on 5th May, 2017 and it has created history there by collecting more than 1200+ crore so far there. It is the Highest Grossing Indian Film in China. Also, Dangal beat Baahubali 2 at worldwide box office with more than 1800 crore total, becoming the Highest Grossing Indian Film of All Time Globally.
Raees vs Kaabil – Ugly Clash
More often than not, clashes have turned ugly in Bollywood, be it for a major screens count or ego of stars, it has hurt the business of both the films. It was evident when Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil clashed with Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees.
From release dates, number of screens to inflation in box office numbers, this clash witnessed it all. Both the movies could have minted more but couldn’t due to the screen sharing. That was a bad time for Bollywood. Raees collected 139 crore while Kaabil minted 121 crore.
Stars We Lost
Bollywood lost Om Puri, Vinod Khanna, Reema Lagoo, Neeraj Vora in 2017. Their contribution to Indian cinema is unparalleled. May they Rest In Peace.
Attack on Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the Padmavati Release Troubles
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati had been in the news ever since the Padmavati project was announced. Although constantly cleared by Bhansali that the film is not showing any distorted historical aspects and there are no romantic scenes between Rani Padmavati and Allauddin Khilji, SLB was attacked in Rajashtan and Kolhapur and the shooting of the movie was stalled. Padmavati has been postponed from 1st December and will now release in 2018.
The Baahubali 2 Storm
On 28th April, 2017, a gigantic storm named Baahubali 2 released and it took the Indian cinema to greater heights. Baahubali 2 has become a pride of India as it won the hearts of millions of people in India as well as the audience across the globe.
Baahubali 2 is the Highest Grossing Film in India with its all version total (nett.) is around 1070 crore and its Hindi version collections are 510 crore. Its Hindi version is also the Highest Grosser of All Time in India. Baahubali 2 is the Highest Grossing Indian Movie in US and is the 2nd Highest Grossing Indian Film at Worldwide Box Office with 1660 crore.
Baahubali 2 (Hindi) has opened the 400 crore, 450 crore and 500 crore clubs in India. Its gigantic collections seem unbeatable at this time. Hats off S. S. Rajamouli for this epic saga.
100 Crore Club Movies
Bollywood had a mixed year in terms of box office revenue. Some big stars’ films went on to collect 100+ crore and some big stars’ films faced outright rejection, failing to make a mark. In fact, Golmaal Again and Tiger Zinda Hai entered the 20 crore club and soon, TZH will be crossing the 300 crore mark too.

The Unexpected Failure of Tubelight
It has happened once in this decade that Salman Khan’s film Tubelight has got a very poor response at box office and that too, on Eid release, one of his premiere releases slots. From negative reviews to average footfalls, the film has only managed to cross the 100 crore mark and there are not much hopes from it.
While Salman’s films tend to do massive business with blockbuster which cross 300 crore mark, Tubelight surprised everyone by becoming a flop.
Akshay Kumar vs Shah Rukh Khan
Many of Shah Rukh Khan’s films are clashing with other movies in recent times. After the latest Raees vs Kaabil face-off, SRK’s film ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal‘ (Title was finalized recently) was going to clash with Akshay Kumar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.
However, fortunately, the clash has been avoided now as Shah Rukh has pre-poned the released from 11th August to 4th August, 2017.

Varun Dhawan had an amazing year as he has given 2 100 crore club movies with Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Judwaa 2. The actor doesn’t have a single flop in his career. Akshay Kumar is continuing his successful streak of movies. His Jolly LLB 2 and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha crossed the 100 crore mark so did Salman Khan’s Tubelight and Tiger Zinda Hai.
When your dedication is supreme, audience will take a note of it and that’s what happened with Rajkummar Rao The actor was unstoppable with masterful performances after performances in 2017 with Trapped, Behen Hogi Teri, Newton, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana and the web series Bose: Dead or Alive. With every movie, he took the Indian cinema to greater heights. The actor has ruled the 2017.
Tiger Zinda Hai and Salman Mania
Salman Khan is undoubtedly one of the biggest superstars of India and his Tiger Zinda Hai proved it. The action thriller has recorded the highest opening weekend for Bollywood and has already entered the 250 crore club. It will soon be entering the 300 crore club, making it only the 2nd movie of 2017 and only Bollywood movie this year to do so. TZH is Salman Khan’s 12th 100 crore club movie, the highest by any actor.
