Vidya Balan’s ‘Begum Jaan‘ is hitting the theaters this Friday. Narrating the story of a madam of a brothel, the film shows Vidya in a dominant and aggressive character, directed by Srijit Mukherji. The film also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Ila Arun, Gauahar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, Rajit Kapoor, Ashish Vidyarthi, Chunky Pandey, Vivek Mushran, Poonam Rajput, Ridheema Tiwari, Flora Saini, Priyankaa Setia, Mishti Chakraborty, Sumit Nijhawan, Pitobash and Rajesh Sharma.

Here is our Music Review on Begum Jaan:

Music Director: Anu Malik

Lyrics: Kausar Munir

Prem Mein Tohre

Asha Bhosle has sung this song in such a skillful manner that Prem Mein Tohre becomes instantly mesmerizing. The classical singing of Bhosle and brilliant music by Anu Malik makes this song utterly joyful. There is a pleasant synchronicity in the beats that give a smooth flow to the song. Its worthy of listening in loop.

Prem Mein Tohre Reprise by Kavita Seth is equally good and pleasant to listen.

Aazaadiyan

Despite having two great singers Sonu Nigam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Aazaadiyan doesn’t quite make a mark. The duet between the two is weak and there is no structure in the composing of Anu Malik. Aazaadiyan has good lyrics by Kausar Munir. The passion needed for such songs is lacking and it eventually becomes an average track.

Holi Khelein

Holi Khelein is a decent song of Holi and Shreya Ghoshal knows how to sing effectively. The beats are playful as well as has a soulful background. Anu Malik has managed to keep the delicate aura intact of the track. This is a matured example of composing,

O Re Kaharo

O Re Kaharo takes you back to the era of classical music. It’s an absolutely wonderful song. The slow pace of the track is necessarily adept and hats off to Anu Malik for creating such an appreciable music. Kalpana Patowary’s voice and singing is the primary reason this song became a powerful storyteller. If you are a fan of classical music, you will love O Re Kaharo.

Verdict:

Begum Jaan’s music album is good to listen. Its songs ‘Prem Mein Tohre’ and ‘O Re Kaharo’ are brilliantly composed and they show why classical music is so powerful. The album might not enjoy much longevity as modern crowd prefers fast paced entertainment tracks but Begum Jaan’s songs are true to its story and roots.
