Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary is finally releasing this Friday. It was scheduled to release on 25th January but due to Padmaavat, its release had been postponed to 9th February which again shifted and is now hitting the theaters on 16th February. Aiyaary is a content driven film so its prospects won’t affect much due to these scenarios but there are some factors that will be crucial to its box office run. On 16th February, Hollywood movie and Marvel’s highly anticipated Black Panther is also releasing worldwide.
Black Panther is one of the biggest films of 2018 and ever since its trailer is out, audience are going berserk to watch it, including the Indian crowd. Marvel has a huge fan base in India so it is expected from trade that Aiyaary might face a tough competition from Black Panther.
Aiyaary will be getting a decent screen share but despite being a solo Hindi release, the screens will be shared with Black Panther and both of them have a multiplex target audience so it will be a clash there. Having Neeraj Pandey as a director and Manoj Bajpayee in it, Aiyaary is definitely a trustworthy candidate in theaters and if audience accepts the movie with critics’ thumbs up, it can defend its existence at box office.
Black Panther is expected to mint $180+ million globally so it is becoming a big contender and its influence in India will be massive. Besides, the film has a vital narrative for Avengers: Infinity War so audience is obviously looking forward to it. There is also a threat of Pad Man and Padmaavat looming over next week as these films are also doing a good business.
So, Aiyaary has many things to deal with but being a content driven film, it can hold its ground sufficiently but will be happen or not, is the answer we will get on Friday itself.
