This Friday saw the releases of multiple movies of Bollywood at box office but unfortunately, none of them have managed to attract a strong number of footfalls in theaters. This is not a good sign for trade.
Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer A Gentleman has got the majority of screens and is also the biggest film out of all the new releases. Although it has brought in decent numbers from its opening day, trade was expecting a better response from it.
A Gentleman collected 4.04 crore on its 1st Friday. This action flick witnessed a dull response in morning shows but evening and night shows saw some growth. The reviews for it are mixed but its quirky storyline can show some rise in occupancy today and tomorrow. It should cross the 15 crore mark by the end of opening weekend.
A Gentleman is getting maximum response from multiplexes only. Good thing for it is that none of the new releases are doing good at box office and the holdover releases’ buzz has also reduced. This will benefit the movie in weekend.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Babumoshai Bandookbaaz has opened with a really good number, considering its low buzz and a very controlled budget. It has earned 2.05 crore on its 1st day. There had not been much promotion from the movie and still it has managed to earn this much.
Reviews for this Kushan Nandy directorial are mixed which will be a worry as it is a content driven film. However, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’s budget is just 5 crore (Production Cost: 3 crore + PA: 2 crore) so by the end of its opening weekend, it will already be a profitable venture.
Other releases Sniff and Qaidi Band have not really made a mark in theaters. Their collections are in the range of 25-30 lakhs (approx.). Sniff might see some growth today and tomorrow as it is a kids’ film so families may turn up for it.
