The mega movie of 2018, 2.0 finally released today and it has taken over the Indian box office like a true king. The theaters are going packed and celebrations are on full swing as Rajinikanth’s films are a festival for his fans. 2.0 is released in more than 7500 screens in India so you can imagine what kind of storm it will bring. It is the widest release for an Indian movie.
Now, coming to 2.0’s 1st day box office collections. This is a mixed response situation. 2.0 has been getting a phenomenal response from South India, which is not surprising as Rajinikanth is the biggest superstar there. Shows starting as early as 4.30 in the morning to more than 25 shows in a day, south shows have almost gone houseful throughout the day.
The occupancy for 2.0 in cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad is 95%-100%. This is historic and it has surpassed Baahubali 2 in south in terms of occupancy. The collections of 2.0 in Tamil and Telugu versions will be record breaking.
Now, let’s talk about rest of the country. 2.0’s response in Mumbai is surprisingly average. Nobody was expecting that. The multiplexes are the slowest in terms of occupancy, witnessing a fill rate of around 50-60% for 1st day. Mumbai was dull in advance booking too. This is a worrisome sign for 2.0 as Mumbai is the major earner from India.
Delhi and North circuits are doing better than Mumbai. Hindi version audience is not giving as great a response to 2.0 as south. 2.0’s Hindi collections may not be as massive as trade was hoping.
The reviews for 2.0 are good. Many critics have appreciated the movie and some have also criticized it but the audience has given it a big thumbs up and they are applauding 2.0’s VFX and action. This word of mouth will play a crucial role in evening and night shows today and also, in coming days.
For Hindi versions, 2.0’s 1st day box office collections will be in the range of 20-24 crore. It should have collected more than 28 crore and it may do that, if it gets a humongous response in night shows from Mumbai, Delhi, Gujrarat, Kolkata’s multiplexes. It is only getting a strong crowd in single screens and small cities.
For Tamil and Telugu versions, 2.0’s 1st day box office collections can be record breaking and it can even beat Baahubali 2. Our early estimate is around 60-70 crore. 2.0’s all India total on 1st day can cross the 100 crore mark which will be epic to witness.
Also remember, today is a normal working day; 2.0 still has three big days ahead to mint some big bucks which will give a clear idea as to how big it is going to go. So far, it has received a positive word of mouth from the Indian crowd which will help it during the long run.
